The material and shape of the 17.5 cms diameter pot is designed for heating aromatic oils or broth's in which to dip chunks of meat or fish or vegetables - a great fun and easy to prepare dinner party!

With fondue sets, it is "horses for courses" - an all purpose fondue set really doesn't work as well, although you can use this one for cheese fondues or melted chocolate for a dessert fondue if you really need to - heat the chocolate or cheese very slowly and keep the burner heat low. Or better still, use an broader, earthenware dish which fits the stand.

Chef's Tip: Here's a recipe for a lovely Seafood Fondue - Serves 4-6

• 1lb of salmon, halibut or swordfish
• 1lb of raw shrimp, shelled, deveined, washed and dried
• 1 litre (2 pints) cooking oil or half butter and half oil
• 2/3 dipping sauces - tartar, dill or horseradish with plain yoghurt or sour cream are all good

1. Cut the fish1/4 inch by 2 inch strips and keep fresh

2. Heat up the oil in your fondue pot on your cooker - heat up a butter/oil mixture more slowly until the butter bubbles

3. When the oil is hot (350 degrees), light the burner and transfer the pot to the fondue stand

4. Start! - the oil needs to be moderately heated and the fish is ready when lightly browned

Serve with a good green salad with light vinaigrette, chunks of warm bread and green bean salad dressed with garlic and lemon and a bit of olive oil.
