Which Brand Should I Buy?

Why AdHoc?

AdHoc Mills in salt, pepper and chilli are designed in Germany. They are just reaching the UK shops, being popular in mainland Europe, particularly Germany and Austria. AdHoc products are sold in over 28 countries around the world, so the company has a good pedigree.

The Adhoc Pepper Mill and Salt Mill have the same ceramic mechanism as each other, and so each mill can be used with either condiment, or with dried leaf herbs and spices if you prefer. With a pair of mills, distinguish between salt mill and pepper mill either by the condiment in the clear acrylic window, or by the colour of the mill AdHoc have also addressed the issue of "bits" being left on the table after use, with a closing shutter mechanism at the bottom of the mills.

2 year warranty on the salt and pepper grinder

The Adhoc Chilli Mill has a 5 year warranty . It had a great review in Daily Mail Weekend Magazine (Sat 15th October) from Masterchef's John Torrode:

"This is a really brilliant gadget for someone like me who loves to add chilli to everything but knows the horror of getting chilli in the eyes and other unmentionable places. The AdHoc Pepe Chilli Mill is great for schredding dried chillies - and I do love a gadget"

The mills are made in the Far East, but we import from Germany, so the quality control and management is German. They are economically priced mills for domestic use.

Adhoc make a range of bright colours in the Tropica and Milano mill designs - orange, green and red. These are available on special order. Please call for details - 01363 881174

Why Gastrolux Induction *CLEARANCE?

At last, the Gastrolux Induction range is coming into the UK for the first time. In view there is no question that Gastrolux has the best ceramic non stick cooking surface, Biotan. It has been manufacturered and distributed since 2006 and I have been supplyin the non induction range since 2007 - so proven and tested.

Gastrolux is one of the best selling ranges in Denmark and also sold in 8 other European countries. Here is an explanation of the Biotan surface

The Healthy Frying Pan!

Rather than use a traditional non stick material which includes the compound PTFE (used in Teflon for example), Gastrolux use a patented extra strong titanium/ ceramic surface called Biotan. The water forms pearls of liquid on the pan surface like water drops on a plant leaf.

This avoids the potentially carcinogenic fumes that PTFE can give off at high temperatures.

2 year domestic warranty and 1 year commercial warranty

Lifetime warranty against distortion

Its healthy, fat free cooking claims are confirmed by being backed by:

  • Danish Heart Foundation
  • Danish Diabetic Association
  • Danish Technological Institute, Food Safety Approved

The Gastrolux Induction cookware adds a magnetised layer to the base of the pans so that the same pan works on an induction hob. There are no differences in how to care and use the induction range, except the recommended hob size for each pan. These are listed on the products

Titanium, aluminium compound base, making it very strong, but also lighter than pure aluminium base pans.

Quality Track Record

Gastrolux have a proved quality track record as well, being used by:

  • The Hilton Group

  • Each mechanism is designed for its specific task - so as to do each job better
  • A genuine unlimited lifetime guarantee on all mechanisms

  • Made from the highest quality materials - its the kind of product you open and feel really pleased with
  • Stainless steel mechanisms with patented treatment to protect from corrosion whilst maintaining the sharpness
  • Huge range of different designs and styles from the traditional to the ultra modern

"Ever since I started my career as a chef I have used PEUGEOT mills. New technologies have come and gone but after 160 years of expertise, original PEUGEOT mechanisms are still the best"

Novelli Academy, jeanchristophenovelli .com

In 1810 the PEUGEOT brothers began producing rolled steel in their mill. They started making kitchen mills in 1840 but have produced a whole array of famous specially designed goods including the cars and bicycles we know well. They continue to innovate without losing their traditional quality and proven technologies.

The PEUGEOT pepper mill stainless steel mechanism is specifically designed to mill whole peppercorns. All the mills are adjustable, with the U select mechanism ( see below ) offering pre-set grind settings. The unique PEUGEOT grinding mechanism has a helix-shaped double row of teeth that cracks the corns in half before then grinding them finely. The mechanism has a patented treatment to protect it from corrosion whilst retaining its milling sharpness

The standard PEUGEOT salt mill mechanism is designed to grind dry rock salt crystals. A recommended brand is Tidman's rock salt which you can buy from Sainsbury, Tesco or Waitrose. Again, the salt mechanism is stainless steel and treated to protect against corrosion.

A "wet" sea salt grinder is also available for grey sea salt or sel de guerande (Malden sea salt would fall under this category ). For more details see our Vendôme Wet Sea Salt Grinder

The U select mechanism is PEUGEOT's latest innovation and allows you to choose from 6 pre-set levels on the pepper mills and 3 on the salt mills. It means that finding your preferred fineness or coarseness of grind is not left to guesswork as you adjust

Why Swiss Diamond *CLEARANCE SALE?

Swiss Diamond produce pots and pans made with real diamonds! Swiss Diamond have harnessed their unique physical properties to come up with a new non-stick coating, which even scooped a Gold medal at the Geneva Inventors Fair.

Lifetime warranty

Tried and tested on Rachel Allen's Bake programe!

The secret behind the brilliance of Swiss Diamond is the unique physical properties of diamonds that provide the non-stick cooking surface with dazzling benefits not found in any other cookware. Not only are diamonds the hardest natural substance but they also possess the highest thermal conductivity, four times that of copper. Numerous other special properties have seen diamond used in industrial, medical and scientific applications. Now Swiss Diamond have found a way to take advantage of this impressive material in non-stick coating.

The non-stick surface is far more cut, chip and abrasion resistant than anything else out there. The secret is combining industrial diamond crystals with a non-stick composite to create a virtually indestructible cooking surface.

This composite gets fused to the pan, rather then layered on, as with most other non-stick surfaces. Swiss Diamond invented this technology and is the only one in existence who uses it.

But it is not just the non-stick coating which makes these pans so special.

  • The reinforced pan edges offer a high level of shock resistance.
  • The comfortable stay-cool handles are engineered for good balance, have finger and thumb grips and are heat resistant in the oven up to 450°F.
  • Cast brass threaded inserts ensure the handles are firmly attached.
  • The interior pan colour is a steel grey rather than the more traditional black, which allows better visibility of what's going on in the pan such as when caramelising pan juices.

Swiss Diamond non stick has no harmful compounds. Swiss Diamond has a nano-composite extra thick layer of traditional PTFE non-stick (as used by Teflon) AND diamond crystals which they claim is 25% better than titanium at giving a lifetime of smooth non-stick surface. The quantity of PTFE used is small compared to other non stick pans and Swiss Diamond confirm that the harmful PFOA component in the PTFE is NOT present in the pans. This has been confirmed by the Danish Technology Institute.

Why Zassenhaus?

Zassenhaus of Germany have been manufacturing high quality mills for over 100 years. They began in 1867, and first produced their famous coffee grinders 20 years later. The first pepper mills were produced in 1904. In 2000 they invented the first continuously adjustable grinding mechanism made with high quality ceramic.

Each mill has a patented mechanism, harder than steel, completely wear-proof and corrosion free. The mills are adjustable with 6 different settings from rough to fine grind to suit the user's requirements.

Unusually for a ceramic grinder, the mechanisms are each uniquely suited to the type of condiment - pepper, salt spices and dry herbs. So no jack of all trades here!

Zassenhaus pepper mills and salt mills have just recently been made available in the UK. Although I cannot at this stage say what is the experience of my customers with them, as they are so new, Zassenhaus has an excellent reputation. Having a ceramic grinder that is suited to the condiment also bodes well for the effectiveness of the millls.

25 year guarantee - we normally only stock mills with a lifetime guaranteed. It is, however, Zassenhaus' policy to offer a 25 year guarantee. I do not think that this reflects a lower quality product, just a company policy. I have said that they should make it a lifetime one if they want to be known amongst the best grinders on the market, which I believe they do! So, fingers crossed they will listen!!
